With a goal of reducing the number of homeless, unwanted cats and kittens in the region, the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP) launched the Spay & Save program in 2010. This collaborative program offers low-cost spay and neuter surgeries at several convenient locations so pet owners who otherwise might not be able to can afford to have their pets altered.
Through donations and grants, the ASAP Spay & Save program can offer to spay or neuter a fertile cat for as little as $10 (for qualified pet owners) with a maximum cost of just $25 per pet. Additional services, such as vaccines and parasite prevention are also offered at a low cost. Appointments are made through a centralized call center and pet owners are scheduled at one of the five Spay & Save surgery sites located across the Portland/Vancouver region. To date, over 65,000 pets have been fixed through this program.
Spay & Save is helping make Portland a Petopia for pets by offering caring pet parents an affordable way to provide basic services for their pets and by lowering the number of unwanted cats and kittens entering our area shelters.
